Serial Architecture for Presidio County

This project for a group of water towers in the region of Presidio County in West Texas responds to an interest in serial architecture. The language of the structures, originally devised for a previous project in Poveglia, Italy, is here simplified and turned into a modular construction system comprising a limited number of elements and basic rules of assembly. The towers are made of mass timber members (glulam columns and beams as well as clt panels), and adopt a system of abstracted capitals that operate as bracing devices in the manner of half-timber structures. In their similarity and difference, scattered along the immensity of the high desert, the towers will operate as markers in the landscape, indicators of human presence and culture.
